Members of the Cambridg Power Boat Regatta Association proudly congratulate Tom Thompson on induction into the Hall of Champions class of 2009.

Tom along with an incredible team assembled by owners George English and Royce Richards dominated the 2.5 Litre modified hydroplane class in 2009. The beautiful Staudacher hull, Fat Chance Too is powered by a John Lohone built Ford, and managed by Crew Chief Randy English set two World Records and won the Eastern, Western Divisional, Summer Nationals and the National Championship (high point).

Tom joins an illustrious community of Champions as he becomes Cambridge’s ninth selection to the Hall and its predecessor The Gulf Marine Hall of Fame from Dorchester County.



Minimum length of this boat is 16 feet. Total displacement of the engine shall not exceed 155.5 cubic inches. Fuel is restricted to methanol, pump gasoline or aviation gasoline.

Cambridge race fans have area boats of Tom Thompson – Fat Chance and Chuck Miller – Whoopee to route for in one of the fastest classes on the program.

Hall of Fame member Woody Pliescott, Jr. earned his fame driving Woody Jr.’s Special as a 150 ci hydro.
